Mahabad, a city in the West Azerbaijan Province of Iran, has been a constant scene of protests. The protests intensified on October 27th, a day after Zhina Amini’s 40th day of remembrance (i.e. Chehelom), where residents took to the streets and took control over some governmental buildings to object to the unjust killing of a young man named Ismali Mowludi who was shot dead during Zhina’s Chehelom ceremony. On November 9th, people from Mahabad were already on the streets in solidarity with victims of the Zahedan Massacre, when they received the news about the death of another Mahabad civilian. The hours that followed, Mahabad experienced another day tainted with grief. This time, people took over the streets for Fayegh Mamghaderi, a 35 year old Kurdish man and father of two children, who lost his life after being in coma for more than 20 days. Fayegh Mamghaderi was severely injured in mid-October with six bullets in his head, back, and abdomen, and had been in a coma since then. According to Kurdish Human Rights Network, KHRN, IRGC forces opened fire on his car while he was driving toward his house. Upon receiving the news, people in Mahabad gathered immediately around his house to pay respect while chanting his name and a kurdish slogan that says: “Martyrs Won’t Die”.
