Islamic republic has held trials for seven protester and the prosecutor has initially requested death penalty for them.
The trials are held in a non-transparent and hasty manner and at least for the case of one person Mohammad Ghobadlou, the judge Moghiseh, has fired the convict's lawyers unilaterally, limiting his rights to a fair trial.
This comes before a recent group of Basiji militias going around a densely populated apartment complex in the western part of Tehran, and threatening the tenants of "Cutting their heads off" if they continue protesting.
Islamic republic has used death penalty as a tool to suppress and intimidate protesters. You can find names and some details of the recent convicts below:
• Mohammad Ghobadlou
• Saman Seyedi
• Mohsen Reza-Zadeh Gharagholou
• Saeed Shirazi
• Mohammad Boroughani
• Abolfazl Mehri Hossein Haji Lou
• Manouchehr Mehman Navaz
Details of first trial according to Mohammad Ghobadlou's lawyer, Amir Raesian: Mohammad is a 22 year old detainee. The court "fired" his two lawyers and his family was not allowed to attend the session. He is charged with murder of an IRGC forces. In his first court presence, he was sentenced to death while he did not have any attorney to represent him. His ex-lawyers have shared medical documents that contradicts the prosecutors' argument and cause of death. His mother released a video to raise visibility for Mohammad, and shared concerns about his neurodivergent son. Visibility of detainees in Iran helps to reduce their chance of execution. Human rights experts and his lawyers are questioning the legitimacy of the court process and have presented documents that contradict the prosecutors' argument for the cause of death and Mohammad's role.
